208th 1M/1M Roundtable For Entrepreneurs: You’re Never Too Old To Startup

208th 1M/1M Roundtable For Entrepreneurs: You’re Never Too Old To Startup

During this week’s roundtable, we had John Lynch drop by. You are wondering, ‘Who is John Lynch? Why does Sramana start the recap with someone I’ve never heard of?’

Well, John is a 1M/1M premium member who is 90 years young.

I am personally in awe of his willingness to try new things at his age, and find his curiosity both refreshing and inspiring. Given the life expectancy of our generation, if we have to live very long lives, that life better be interesting, or I am bailing out! John’s example gives me hope.

The roundtable itself had a couple of slide presentations, and a discussion without slides.

CliqueMe

First up, Nick Swenson from Santa Monica, California, pitched CliqueMe, a blogging platform that collates some of the best features of Instagram and Pinterest, but keeps the traffic on the bloggers’ site. For large bloggers in domains such as fashion, food, parenting, etc., that are image intensive, Nick believes his platform can vastly improve traffic and engagement.

His focus is the top range of these bloggers who have at least a million unique users a month. Nick plans to charge them a subscription fee. The market is relatively niche, with only about 1000-2000 bloggers falling in that range, so fine for a bootstrapped business, not for a VC-style one.

Sococo

Then, Shri Dodani from San Jose, California, pitched Sococo, a virtual office product that helps remote employees to collaborate more effectively. We did a real-time market-survey of the audience to see who would use it.

Shri offered them a free 2-user subscription. The response was mixed, but hopefully, Shri found some takers.
